This is an update to the previously reported problem affecting some broadband customers. A copy of the previous announcement can be seen here:-

We have been in contact with BT Wholesale who have informed us of a major service outage on their network. The problem is believed to be in the Greater Manchester area however it may be affecting customers outside of Manchester due to the nature of the problem.

Symptoms will be that the broadband modem or router will be in sync (usually indicated by a steady green ADSL light) but that the connection fails to authenticate or gives a 691 error.

If you were logged in to the portal, you could associate your username with this problem.

BT are making progress to resolve the problem which is with their equipment and we are monitoring their status emails for updates.

BT Wholesale have resolved the problem that has caused some customers to be unable to connect this evening. All customers should now be able to connect as normal.

We would advise any customers experiencing difficulty connecting to first power down all their equipment for 30 minutes before retrying the connection.
