Summary: |
A guide to setting up the Mozilla Thunderbird mail client. |
|
Thunderbird is a simple email client
program, free from Mozilla. The following steps give you information on
setting up Thunderbird version 0.9. You can download the latest version
of the Thunderbird email client from the Mozilla
website.
|
|
Step 1: When you open
Thunderbird for the first time, you will be prompted to provide setup information.
To start click Tools on the menu bar, then select Account Settings.
|
Step 2: To setup email for the
first time, click on Email account, then click Next.
|
Step 3: Before proceeding with
your account details complete the Outgoing Service Settings.
The Server Name is smtp.metronet.co.uk.
Ensure that Port is set to 25 (it should be set to this by default).
You do not need to tick Use name and password, unless
you are sending email from an Internet connection not provided by Metronet.
If this is the case you will need to enter your service username and password
in the relevant boxes.
You do not need to select a secure connection, leave this set to No.
To setup your Metronet email account click on Add Account,
then OK.
|
Step 4: Next you are asked for
server information. First you must choose between POP and IMAP.
You can use either, we recommend using POP.
You can leave Use Global Inbox (stores in Local Folders) ticked. This
feature is only important if you are setting up multiple mail accounts
and wish to receive mail to seperate inboxes.
For the incoming server type mail.metronet.co.uk, then click Next.
|
Step 5: Fill in Your Name and Email Address.
Click Next.
|
Step 6: Fill in your Incoming User Name, this is the same as your Member
Centre username. Click Next.
|
You are now presented with all the details you have entered
so that you can confirm that everything is correct. If you are sure everything
has been entered correctly, click Finish. Congratulations, you have
successfully setup Thunderbird! |
